CSCL SIG facts and impacts

The CSCL SIG is a flagship activity in Kaleidoscope. With over 380 members, of which 138 are Ph.D students, the CSCL SIG has members from all the countries involved in Kaleidoscope.

The CSCL SIG already has distinguished itself internationally, drawing participants from Asia and the United States to our Symposium held in Lausanne in October 2004. The CSCL SIG was also strongly represented in the IST 2004 event in the Haag, playing a central role in the networking session for TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) and holding a seminar session on CSCL where 5 CSCL SIG members presented their work. Activities in which researchers from the CSCL SIG are involved are the CSCL 2005 conference in Taipei, Taiwan, the 1st Kaleidoscope Symposium on TEL in Oberhausen, Germany, the CSCL 2007 conference in New Brunswick, USA and the EARLI 2007 in Budapest, Hungary, Coming event is the Kaleidoscope Symposium 2007 in Berlin, Germany.

The CSCL SIG addresses the next generation of CSCL research by:

  • providing a cluster of researchers with a mechanism for integration of their multidisciplinary perspectives of CSCL which can foster new approaches to the studies of technologies and an improvement in educational technologies;
  • providing a forum for meeting and forming research alliances which can create new ERTs (European Research Teams) and JEIRPS (Jointly Executed Integrating Research Projects), and can apply for other external research funding;
  • creating a competitive advantage for the EU community by giving a European voice in the International arena thus making it possible for European researchers to have stronger influence in defining the future within this research area;
  • traversing all other Kaleidoscope Partner Activities (KPA) where learning is in focus – to stimulate the development of the CL paradigm in any of the other KPA where learning is in focus.
